Is it better to leave the thermostat or to remove it if running motor high on transom and turning between 6500 to 7000 rpms?

    Default thermostat

actually i cannot remember which one it was. this was back in the lat 80s. i do remember opening a few boxes at the auto store to find one that matched the diameter and depth for the 49ci omc.

All I know is that the fishermen here that pull the stats wear a motor out way faster than those that don't. A motor has to be at temp to make power. I run 1 1/2" above the bottom, with a factory stat.

Running at low speed, as the fishermen tend to do with all that trolling, keeps the motor too cold. That damages the pistons/ rings/ walls/ etc. Hard running keeps her warm enough to avoid that.
