The SSM water pick up for this application is not any better than a stock unit pick is for a flat bottom with a jack plate. The water pick up on the twin pinion is out in front in the nose cone as viewed in the previous post. compared to the 75H pictured, which has the pickup just in front of the skeg. On the cabover hydro, with the engine tucked under and planeing on the gear case the pickups will be out of the water. It can be seen in the attached photo the nose cone is clear of the water on the 75H and the twin pinion will be more so. For that reason the turning fin/rudder has 2 water pickup tubes cast into it for speedo and engine cooling, like the inboard boys do. The adapter plate pictured has the water ports drilled into the back edge. The centered port is the input from the rudder which is rifle drilled through the rectangular port and into the divider. The rectangular port feeding the bottom of the block. At the front of the divider between the 2 pockets a hole is drilled into the rifle drilled hole to allow water into each pocket. The water will flow across each pocket to a port at each side of the adapter, one under the drill, to feed the water to the tubes that run cooling water along the forward side of the exhaust ports. The access hole on the under side of the plate will be capped. Kept trying to convince myself that I could run a water pump with water from the nose cone and feed thru the bottom. Not a good idea. I do not know how water even gets into the 75H. The skeg must push a wave in front of it and into the holes.

Added a couple of pics of the clamp bracket machining also.

Must be fun to drive with all the slack in the steering cable shown in the above head-on shot.

Any thoughts on possible water pressure issues with rudder mounted water pick up at 130 mph?

I do enjoy your build and all the details involved. I will make the finished product even more memorable to see. You might even consider packaging all your pics and explanations on a DVD.

Makes one wonder. However the steering cables are as tight as a fiddle string when static. The left hand torque of the engine stretches the cable so hard that the slack appears in the left cable, the steering input to maintain straight line flight keeps right hand cable tight. The sine waves in the cable are from vibration. Left turns only, just by letting go of the wheel and letting motor hit preset stop. Back straight by locking throttle and two hands on wheel to over come torque and then release throttle. With the constant torque there was never any play in steering control.

To minimize the torque steer on my 1100 Runabout, I run an inexpensive torque dampener. A Big 'ol Black bungee! I think a lot of the tunnel boat guy run them too. Well within the K.I.S.S. Principle parameters too!

I'm sure he was just looking out for your best interest on the steering cable. Cuz it does look a little scarey. However it would be interesting if you posted something that you know won't work. Just how many (that will never work) gets posted. With that said GOOD JOB. To anyone else this would be a dumb question. Do you make your own props? I mean it's not out of your capability.

No, I have not fallen off the planet. Just been working 6 and 7 days a week for the last 5 weeks Got a little work done but not much. I did decide after the trial assembly and not liking the compression that I was feeling, to add a dykes ring to the piston. So I made a set of rings and cut another ring groove in the piston. With that completed and the completion of polishing the port chamfers, I can clean all the parts and do the final assembly.

I have also disassembled the speedmaster and made that ready for welding.
