Factory. Glass and carbon reeds do not last like factory reeds, 4 hours is very good ... often 1 is all you get.
Since 1925, about 150 different racing outboards have been made.

I have 20 some years old Boyesen reeds in a 75hp Johnson that I didn't see the need to change after inspecting them. Motor runs and idle real good. I'll be testing a set of
    C. Carson reeds this summer on another project outboard motor, hope they are half as good.

    Default Boyesen fiber reeds

I have 4 seasons of hard racing on a set of dual stage reeds in my modified 75hp omc and they still look great. I also have a set of Chris Carson reeds in my 44xs that have 1 season on them and they look perfect. I did change the Carson reeds for this season, but only because Chris claimed the newer ones that I put in will perform better. Not sure why, but to-date, I trust Chris's word.

Not sure why some folks only get a season, or less, out of theirs??

Ive tried Boyesen 2 stage in a 31.8 OMC crossfire, they held up fine but were no speed secret. I did read that misfires will break them & its recommended to rich-n the mixture. I'm going to try Carlsons single stage soon but will have a backup stock plate ready to go in. From messing with damper bend I know reeds with less tension can be a nice power increase.

By bending the dampers out to let the reeds open further the flower type reeds being narrower towards the base will have less tension but be more likely to break. Why the book say don't & true. It was significantly better on top end till one broke.
