Default Hot Boat Magazine Quarterly: Summer 1966

I wish I could find Dave Severson, he started this magazine. Then, he started Power Boat and sold it to Bob Nordskog, who re named it Powerboat Magazine.

    I haven't scanned it all,but I will!

    Default A Question for Tim

I'm scanning these pictures but they seem large on my computer. Are they too large? I might get someone to help me make them smaller....

Also, I have too much "STUFF" as I post it, I plan to list it on Ebay and sell it.

Yes, they do look fine. And if you are planning on selling that issue I will buy it.

Ron...how many issues of Hot Boat Quarterly were there? I have to look at my stash, but seems like they were here...then they're gone. I have only a few. I will look tomorrow.

Default Dave Severson Was The "MAN"

I have been trying to find Dave, but have failed. Dave loved boat racing, he did all the Havasu Outboard World Championship programs, very classy in my opinion. Dave started several magazines that failed. I don't think he started these magazine with failure in mind, there just weren't enough "BOAT NUTS" to keep a magazine in business.

Hot Boat Quarterly became Power Boat. Jerry Tidwell and Dave owned Power Boat Magazine. I was a writer for Power Boat Magazine and also I sold subscriptions. I really don't recall how the subscription deal went, but seems, it was $5.00 FOR TWO YEARS. If I signed someone up for a subscription, I kept the $5.00 BUT SEND THE NAME AND ADDRESS TO DAVE SEVERSON, as they wanted big numbers of subscribers to help sell ads for the magazine.

After the Marathon Nationals (For Stock Outboards) 1967, in Bay City, Michigan, I wrote an article for Power Boat. I didn't get paid, but I did sell many subscriptions to the magazine as I WAS a writer for the magazine. This article was published in Power Boat 1967.

I then wrote an article about DePue, Illinois Nationals, and The Chicago to Milwaukee Marathon, and the Canton, Ohio OPC Nationals. I made some pretty good cash of subscriptions....

Upon my return for the mid west, I went to a POPBRA meeting at the Seal Beach Yacht Club to hear about future boat races.

Well, that night, Bob Nordskog announced he had bought Power Boat Magazine and planned to promote boat racing as he saw fit. This sounded pretty good to me, as Norskog made all the cooking galleys on Boeing aircraft's and I knew he made big bucks and had big bucks.

    What I didn't know that:

    A. One of his first jobs was to fire me
    B. Change th name from Power Boat to POWERBOAT
    C. Never give a **** if he made a dime as long as the magazine promoted Bob Nordskog!

Under First Amendment anyone can lose as much money as they want in th publishing business. I don't think Powerboat Magazine ever showed a profit, but Bob Nordskog go lost of "INK" in his magazine. I don't think Bob Nordskog every cared about promoting boat racing, I think he cared about promoting Bob Nordskog...
