    Default 1977 75 hp Evinrude won't start

I disconnected the black and yellow wire and now it will start. So I replaced the key switch and it's still doing the same thing. What to check now or other possible solution.

The black wire with a yellow stripe is the ignition grounding circuit. Connect that wire to ground and it shorts out the ignition. Since you disconnected it it the motor and the ignition works, the wiring on the boat harness must be shorted somewhere. If you check continuity from the boat side where you disconnected the wire and ground it should show continuity with the symptoms you provide. Your task is simply to work back into the wiring and find out where. Did it work previously?

Yes it was working fine yesterday. And cranked up and ran fine today for a minute or so then shut off like the key had been turned off. The engine still will not start if I disconnect the black and yellow wire from the key switch I have to disconnect it at the power pack on the engine for it to start. What does this mean?

if you have the original remote control box then check the nutral switch !!!!!
ive found a few of these have been the problem when people have turned the knob on the side of the box to far out or in im not sure which.
but as soon as the arm in the conrol was taken off the trouble never apeared again.
i think its if the knob is turn to give less friction that cuases it.
it makes the engine think its in gear and will not start.
got to be worth a try.
    hope it helps

    Default Neutral safety

The neutral safety switch will not allow it to crank, eh stated it cranks but no spark. when he disconnects the kill wire off of the power pack, it will run
