Just out of curiosity, what is a "safe" range in prop diameter and pitch for the A class Loopers? I am certain someone on here has the answer

I definitely don't know.. Most of these engines last ran before I was born! Correct me if I am wrong guys, but the A's typically ran 16:21's and the B's usually ran 1:1's???

Yup you got it! For a kid you not too dumb The a's ran on a boat with training wheels around 6 to 6 3/8 x 10 or 10 1/4 or a little more. In other words a good M prop from today And that six pack is of anything you care to dare with buddy! Steve

I am a little surprised at that size, pretty small for the power they delivered, is that because their performing rpm range was so high? If I ran one and didn't want it winding up (and ran 1:1's) something a little larger like 7 x 11 wouldn't be bad, or would it? Thanks for the info

I'll be on the lookout for the correct prop then. Thanks

I bought a junker A looper out of a marina's scrap pile in the mid 70's. It had no carb or coils, the flywheel was cracked and it was stuck but it had a decent KG4H housing and a good 1-1 quicky boot and a chrome Mercury steering bar so it seemed worth $100.

About the same time I bought a couple of old wheels from a guy with A&B Anzanis. They were 6x9 and 6+x9+ and were A&B alky wheels. I put a bit of pitch in the little one and won a bunch of ASR races with it. The bigger one was a pretty good ASH prop.

Making progress. I need to make a new stator plate and go through the fuel system and the powerhead will be done.

    Default FA-60 Progress

More progress. I machined adaptors for the powerhead to tower, and the tower to lower unit. Now I need to get the tower and clamp assembly powder coated to look nice. Then run the water lines, hang the ignition and tidy up fuel system. Sorry for the crappy pictures.
This engine could be YOURS when its done!
