It may look like it had been at the bottom of Salton Sea for 30 years, but it hadn't.

    1. I'm presuming that it is what's left of a propeller.

    2. Color doesn't look right to be aluminum. Looks like brass or bronze, but that could be deceiving because of the color. The color doesn't necessarily mean that's what it looked like when it went down. Looks kind of like a tree ring between the splines and outer parts. I don't know that much about electrolysis, but I'm thinking that the prop shaft was probably stainless, there may have been an inner core of the prop with some harder metal, maybe a different hardness of stainless. The prop was of a dissimilar metal and the boat sat in salt water. Either no sacrificial trim tab, or an inboard that didn't have a one. If a prop was installed one a unit that had been in service for a number of years, the new prop will get attacked exponentially from all sources, and especially in salt water. It would not take as long for a new prop to go bad as one that had been there for years.

    3. I went back to look at your original third question Ron, and it made me think about what you said. "How long did I take to make it look like this". So I'm going to guess 279 days.
