I don't know Tohatsu's but 20 degrees? I know modern engines don't need as much lead as older ones but that sounds awful low. Merc 55H's run 40 per the factory but will take more depending on setup.

The Dmod(stock) is jetted one step leaner than stock in #1 ,#2.... #3 is the same jet size but that's 2 steps leaner than stock... 6500 rpm calculated....100 octane mixed 24:1 with real dino oil... if you time them up they won't pull.
I'm going to try more oil in mine, the CES runs best at 32:1 apparently.
loopers, the higher in rpm you spin them the less timing it will tolerate. smoked set after set of pistons on the ces tryin to get her to pull hard on the low end. that high rpms timin needs to be low or she just burns the piston at the exhaust port window. the more timin it has the harder she pulls on the low end but she fights it's self at high end.
