    Default Prop chatter help needed

My new motor sounds like it's gonna come apart at low rpm with the new stainless prop. Everything seemed fine with the stock aluminum prop that came with the new motor. The dealer said it's normal for some motors?! The motor only has 10 hours on it and I'm really starting to have buyers remorse. What causes this and how do I stop it?

    Default What Kind of Motor?

My guess is your aluminum prop did not bite as well as the stainless. The chatter you are feeling is the prop trying to bite and your motor mounts are taking the shock. On some motors we have had to wedge a piece of wood between the saddle and the tower housing. The higher you raise the motor and the bigger the prop, the worse the "Chatter" will get.

I don't know if you motor has a solid motor mount available.

See if you can shake the motor without the boat moving.

The new prop chatters out of the water as well while at a very low idle in gear on the muffs. I have been told it's the clutch dog? There's no metal in the gear lube and it shifts perfect. I think the clutch dog engagement isn't firm enough if that makes any sense?

I am "assuming" your motor is a 4 stroke? If so, that chatter is common for certain motors...........thats why there are special prop hubs for 4 strokes nowadays.......what brand motor do you have?

Suzuki. I figured it was a 4 stroke issue even though my dealer disagrees.

Mate, is your staino a solid hub or one of those new plastic hub styles like Michigan and merc ?
They all rattle at idle but when the revs pic up a bit they settle down .
What rpms dose it do it at.

RPM'S? No tach because it's a tiller motor and the prop has a pressed rubber hub. The noise goes away at speed, but wow it's awful at low speed.
