Default rev limiter on omc 3 cylinder ? seems it can be done easy

For anyone else who needs to do this I have just asked on another forum about removing the rev limiter from the cdi pack on my motor.
( I have also asked all over the internet too, and a few local shops near me that re-map auto stuff).
I was about to let a local electrics bloke attack my spare cdo to get rid of it, he told me it will be easy once he got to the board ????

I have the cd3 stuff 1995 with the square cdi box.
so many people had told me this cannot be removed and that you need the older electrics blah blah blah.

well it appears that it can be done and very simply by cutting into the two orange wires from stator to the power pack.
the orange and orange with black get opened up and this takes away the rpm limiter and f.a.s.t (quick start) function.

I asked about it being switchable and the answer was yes.

so put the wires on a switch and you can start with F.A.S.T and then once warmed up and the timing drops simply turn it off and your unlimted for rpm.

this to me sounds a very simple process and saves changing out lots of expensive electrics and saves a lot of time and effort.
so all those with the oval port can now go and rev to the moon without costing a fortune.

this I have not yet tried but will be definitely giving it go over the next couple of weeks.

seems to good to be true, but have been assured by a nice clever man that it will work.

if anyone knows otherwise please let me know.

its good that the newer electrics can be un limited. it gives much more availability to the more modern engines.

it is good you can make your other electrics unlimited, give you much more scope to use anything, plus it is newer wiring too.
saves a lot of time and messing around changing stuff out.

have you put it on a switch or just cut the wires completely ?
I will switch mine so I can use the quickstart feature when I first start up and then when warm flick the switch.
also good if I want to let someone else use the boat and keep them to slower speed ha ha .

I thought the 56 from about 1990 had the quick start !! maybe not.

as long as it runs good and still charges battery , to be unlimited is good for top end.

my motor us definitely limited big time, I think its around 6100, as it wont go past that even with a 15 pitch prop, will try without the orange wires next time out.

You know when limiter kicks in, it starts to cut ignition. Mine did.

There are many different types of rpm limiter, some come in and out fast like when over revving the motor cycles with ignition cutting in and out.
Some come in steady and just keep the rpm at that level and dont drop in and out.
I think I have the second type, its like a soft limit if you know what I mean,
the thing that makes me think like this is because I am getting same rpm limit with a 17,19,21, and 23 pitch..
always at the 6000 to 6100 rpm mark.

Would be absolutely fantastic if I can get around 6800 to7000 from my Oval port 56 with a 13x19 or 21 pitch...
