Mercury 20hp 98 model

Hi, just wondering what it is on the motor that restricts it to 20hp rather than 25hp? .....and can i easily change something to make it a 25hp.

I would check the Carb - Jetting and Reeds/block. Maybe the gear ratio as well but I would look at the carb first.

As mentioned, carb, reeds are in that order most likely where it is, if you can get a look at a parts manual youll know for sure. The tune-up specs could show a difference like timing or syncronizing. Good luck, its probably there.
