Default 2006 Mini Enduro: Blue Water Casino

I have been wanting to put on a GRASS ROOTS ENDURO for Mini Boats...I've wanted to do this for many years. Ross has agreed that he'll work with us to do it.

Here's what I'm thinking.....Help me out all you want...

    1. Three Hours
    2. Two mile course
    3. 2 manitory ten minute pit stops
    4. No capsuled boats
    5. Red Zones like the Blue Casino 300 Enduro

    Classes:

    Division I

Any Legal "C" Stock Runabout APBA.
Mini GT (Tunnel with 25 HP, Aluminum prop)...
Any vee, flat bottom wooden boat up to 44 cubic inch, shifter gearcase, kneel or sit down.
Any Addictor, Schiada or Vee hull with up to 35 HP motor, any prop.

    Division II

    Legal Sport C

    Division III

    Fat C

    Division IV

Any 3 cyclinder on a vee bottom hull

    Division V

Super Light Tunnel: Legal APBA (What ever those rules are)...

Any interest in running this Enduro the weekend before Thanksgiving, 2006???...You could stay around and race at the Annual Thanksgiving Regatta at Blue Water Casino...

Give me feedback about the classes...this is just a rough plan...Start all the same time, each Division winner to get trophy and money...

Default What Makes Me Think It Will Work???

Having been one of the FOUNDING FATHERS of the LAST MINI Revolution, I'd like to think I can be a mover and shaker of the NEXT MINI BOAT REVOLUTION...

    1. The INTERNET is a POWERFUL TOOL. In the summer I get more than 100 E-Mails a week for propellers for boats with under 60 horse power. Some where in my mind I know there are thousands of people that would race a small boat if they didn't think they'd go broke or get hurt...BRF can promote Boat Racing. The Lone Star Boat racing Association just had a reunion where more than 200 people came...past and present racers were there...All said they came becasue they had heard about it on the INTERNET....

    2. The last MINI BOAT REVOLUTION was fueled by Tohatsu, then OMC's desire to sell 45 SS motors... Most of the first GENERATION tunnel boats were not up to the speeds Mod C 's went...and the 45's didn't have capsules...Too many people got hurt..Propeller and engine prices went sky high, so they quit racing them.

    3. This race is going to VERY POPULAR because, we want anyone with a small boat to come and HAVE FUN...This is a GRASS ROOTS RACE.....Kids as young as 16 can race...we want women racing, again....This is going to be FAMILY, FUN and FRIENDS....

My goal, is that no boat will exceed 65 MPH in this Enduro. We won't have passing in the corners. We'll drive like GENTLEMEN or we will get a penalty.

3.. Most classes rules will be pretty open, except for safety....Transom heights will be watched and enforced. Ill handling boats, bosts that can't go around a corner without spinning out, will stay on the beach after their manitory pits stops....

My goal, is 15 enteries by April 30, 2006. (Five Divisions, three boats per Division)... $200.00 entry Fee before April 30.....

Again, this is a rough OUTLINE..but Ross is "On Board" and is behind the Mini Enduro...

A few pictures from the OLD DAYS...: Team Schiada, then John Rinker...

    Default More Mini Boats

The first year we ran, my wife's boat was the only one without an electric starter...Everyone "ROARED" off...we were standing there cranking....She gave me a look that said, "Dummie, where's my starter???"We had an electric starter on this FIBERGLASS C RUNABOUT, number that John Castelli and Bob Wartinger drove...we lead MOD C for a while with this thing....

    Default Yes, Dave Kober...

In the red sweatshirt, is Ken Scoville, Jr. (Champ Boat inspector)... Old Kneeldown racer....

You coming out and running Fat C with me MissBK.....(I haen't figured out how to make the co-drivers of equal weight...but feel, we should require each driver to make weight... So, we may require that you "DECLARE" your driver's weight and "Ballist" before the race....

My problem was always finding a driver with short legs like me! I even had someone suggest duct taping big blocks to my feet so I could reach the pedal! LOL

But short legs meant I could cram my body way up into the nose of the boat, so planing off was a snap - was sure nice to get a jump on the rest of the pack especially when there were 65 entries.

But being wedged in tight up there meant a higher chance of getting stuck in the cockpit in an accident. And so... my right knee is still blue from the steering wheel it yanked out, my neck-bones are fused, and I am missing one of my tricep muscles that rammed side of the cockpit when I stuffed @ 65.

If I got back into it, it would have to be in a capsuled boat.

In reference to the SLT class
i have so far got 3 boats from discovery bay area that will go,,
    what are the requirements in gear? i am assuming;
    kevlar ? pants and sleeves
    snell approved helmet
lifeline jacket. my freind wants to know it the pker run lifeline qualifies?
jeff and danny do not have kevlar so would need to locate,

also would be a great event all same type boats as above do a
delta ditch poker run/ or a race
    multiple stops
could have offshore boats run ahead and clear ea leg. to eliminate traffic (jet skis) (ski boats) etc, i can also talk to marine patrol (sheriff ) to see if they would help as they do on our big pokerruns.
    discovery bay start
    1st leg to union point
2nd leg to bull frog landing
3rd leg to orwood for lunch,
then short leg back to discovery bay
have a few beers, and bench race : )

Default SLT Would Be APBA Pretty Much Anyway!!!

If "CUT SUITS" are required for SLT's in APBA, then our Mini Enduro would not change an APBA SAFETY RULE.

    Default A Request for MONEY....

I going to be asked that some of our readers and members, consider being a $100 sponsor for our planned GRASS ROOTS MINI ENDURO.

As soon as we finalize plans, I want at least 15 people to step up and sponsor a boat. The sponsor will get their name on the side of the boat. So, start saving your change to sponsor some grass roots racers...

Small jets will be allowed in Division I, up to 50 HP...If Ross can get approval for Personal Water Crafts, they will be included in this event...

I've had a few e-mails asking if this is A REAL EVENT??? Since when do I talk about "pie in the sky"... After all.....we still have a SPORT TO SAVE!!!!

But, we've made a ton of progress!!!! Bakersfield was AWESOME!!!!
