    Default Pete Voss Update

Does anyone have an update on the condition of Pete Voss? For those of you not there , Pete and Don Rusnak and Brad Burkland were involved in an accident at the start of the first heat of 500 Runabout. It appeared Don was ahead of the pack coming to the start and slowed so not to jump the start and the field came from behind at full speed. Pete clipped the side of Don's boat and Brad had nowhere to go. Last report we heard was Pete suffered a broken hip and was in surgery Sunday morning. Our prayers go out to him for a speedy recovery!!

    Default Pete Voss

According to what his sister Cookie told me, Pete was operated on Sunday morning and the results were better than first thought.

They were able to pin the hip and put a plate in to take care of the damage, rather than having to re-build the hip and ball in the hip as they first feared they may have to do.

Pete is scheduled for about 3 more days and then a release and fly home.

We spoke to Diane Sunday evening and the plan at that time was that she was driving the equipment home Monday and then flying back at the end of the week to bring (fly) Pete home Saturday. The doc was very happy with the results of the surgery and expects Pete to make a full recovery.

Pete wanted me to thank everyone for all of their assistance on Saturday - from getting him out of the water, into the ambulance, getting the boat and engine dried out and putting all the stuff in the trailer!

Also to everyone that has lent support to us, helped with phone calls (when I only had one phone number to call from the hospital), visits, and well wishes (and where just there to hold a hand, give a hug, or run a get a wallet!)

He really appreciates all that has been done.

And yes, Tony, he might appreciate some "real" food - not too much - as he is trying to keep his "figure."

We are trying to see if he can be released so that he can get home this weekend, but not sure what day. The surgeon was very impressed with his recovery to date.

Default Pete Voss - Back on Long Island

Pete arrived home last night - long day and the car and plane ride were a bit rough in some spots. He still has neck pain and his left leg doesn't bend fully. But he, according to the hospital staff, is doing extremely well. He is mobile on crutches and/or a walker. He needs to start physical therapy to get everything working properly.

He really appreciated all the phone calls and visits (and so did I). Feel free to call him on his cell phone - 631-645-2543.

    His address is:

    243 Main Road
    Riverhead, NY 11901

Thanks again to everyone for all their thoughts and well wishes!
