Tim Seebold Takes Roar Of The Rockies Pole Position
Fairchild & Rinker Round Out Top 3 In Colorado Event
WINDSOR, Colorado – Sunday, September 02, 2007 – Tim Seebold of the Bud Light Seebold Racing Team came back from a less than spectacular qualifying effort by winning both heat races in Group B to take pole position for tomorrow’s 7th “Roar of the Rockies” to be raced in front of thousands of fans on Water Valley lake in the North Central Colorado city of Windsor.

Seebold, who continues his string of great results on the lake will lead the field of drivers tomorrow from the number one position looking for his 5th win in 7 starts here in the Centennial State.

“We did a great job coming back from a less than spectacular setup in qualifying,” stated Tim. “We now are looking a lot better but will have to hold off a lot a great driver’s to win tomorrow.”

Chris Fairchild of Paw Paw, Illinois finished 3rd in his first heat combined with winning the 2nd heat of Group A giving him enough to start 2nd off the dock on the four pin one mile race circuit tomorrow.

Two time defending F1-ChampBoat champion Terry Rinker in the Amsoil sponsored machine will start 3rd finishing 2nd in both heats to Tim Seebold and is hoping that the boat he is driving continues to have good luck on this circuit having won the last time the hull was raced here with Jason Campbell at the controls of the Leecraft in 2005.

Starting 4th will be all-time race winning leader Mike Seebold in the 2nd Bud Light sponsored boat after finishing 2nd in two heats in Group A. The native of St. Louis, Missouri will be looking for his record breaking 29th career win and his first in Colorado.

Fifth will be another returning driver Greg Foster of Anaheim Hills, California, who is 6th all time in victories on the circuit, as he goes for his 11 career checkered flag. He’ll be in the Water Valley Seebold hull returning to the series for the first time in two years after finishing 5th here in Windsor back in 2005.

The remainder of the field on Monday will be caught up in a wild run for spots off the dock with a “B Main” and a “Dash for Cash” finally solving the puzzle of the starting line-up for the main event of the afternoon.

Some surprising drivers will be forced to run the “B” event beginning with fastest qualifier Shaun Torrente of Miami, Florida who easily won the first heat of Group A only to have his battery go flat failing to start the 2nd start and now relegated to push for a spot up front.

Canadian Brian Venton will lead the “B” Main after colliding with Randy Rinker in a heat race tearing up his left sponson and expecting a long night fixing his boat.

Jeff Shepherd of Tennessee will start 2nd after two fine runs with Illinois driver Lynn Simburger in the 3rd position looking to move up as well.

The 5th round of the 2007 F1-ChampBoat Grand Prix Series will take place on Water Valley Lake at 4 pm local (16:00) Mountain Daylight Time; 18:00 Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) and 23:00 Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

    Default Seebold wins Roar, again

    Seebold wins Roar, again
Missouri native wins fifth Roar of the Rockies
    By Kurt W. Hinkle
    sports@windsorbeacon.com

Tim Seebold does not own any property in Windsor, but he owns the Roar of the Rockies.

“I’m going to have to move to Windsor,” said Seebold after he exited blue and gray No. 16 Bud Light ChampBoat with a checkered flag in hand. “We always seem to run a great race here.”

Seebold won his fifth Roar of the Rockies Formula-1 ChampBoat title Monday after passing Shaun Torrente on Lap 42 of the 50 lap event. Seebold held onto the lead for the final eight laps to capture the ChampBoat Grand Prix Series’ fifth event of the season.

“You’ve got to have a little luck and (Monday) we had a little luck,” said Seebold, who has won five of the seven Roar of the Rockies races. “You’ve got to try to take whatever comes your way and make the most of it.”

The lead came Seebold’s way during the 42nd lap after Torrente, the race leader from the start of the race, lost his large lead when a spark plug wire fell off.

“Yeah, that one hurt,” said Torrente, who won the SST-120 race at the 2005 Roar of the Rockies. “We were leading the whole race and the (boat) was unbelievable. It was unreal. It moved to wherever I wanted it to go.

“We need to get over the hump. I’ve had one win this year and we’ve led about 10 of these things.”

Torrente jumped off the starting dock and into first place, a position he convincingly held until the 12th lap when the 14 drivers were forced to restart when Greg Foster’s Water Valley/Reinell boat lost its rear tail cone while making a rounding Turn 4.

“We were starting to make ground before that and it forced us into the back at the restart,” said Foster.

Torrente bolted out of the restart and into his familiar position out front and held a steady pace for the next 30 laps, until he had problems with a spark plug wire.

All Seebold had to do was follow Torrente the majority of the race and take advantage of the rookie’s bad luck and speed to the lead.

“We’d get up to the faster traffic and that’s always harder to get around and that was boxing everything up and allowed me to close up,” Seebold said. “We got the re-start and I was able to get by Terry (Rinker), so that was great. It was an exciting race. I sure hope the fans liked it.”
