Default Identifying the V-6 OMC Power Head

    Hey Guys,

Does anyone out there know how to ID a V-6 OMC powerhead??

Clymer's says there is a freeze plug on the block somewhere that has an ID number stamped on it....mine appears to be between the cylinder banks at the top rear of the powerhead....but it looks more like a part number than a model number (06431798).

Also I know that there is a model number on the port side clamp bracket (mine says VE200SLESE - which is a 1989 200 Rude XP), but I dont have the chassis (thus I dont have the clamp bracket and ID number) which this powerhead came off of.

I was told the powerhead was from a 1993 Rude XP, but cannot confirm this.

So how do you ID a V-6 powerhead that is not attached to its original chassis???

    Any comments are welcome.

    Thanks

That number you posted is a part number 431798, that is the part number is for a replacement 3.0L powerhead. (not that I ever wrote a warranty claim with that number on it). So that is a replacement powerhead on that motor and it would match the year of the motor you listed being a "ES", 1990.

It doesn't say "06" it says "OG".

If it was a 93 PH it would be easily identified by the blow off valve at the top left of the exhaust cover with hoses going left and right, the earlier ones did not have that.

    Thanks for that info Bill.

Ill have to look for the blow off valve and the hoses at the top of the exhaust cover.

Bill - would a power pack for a 1993 engine keep blowing if it were installed on a 1990 powerhead?

Ive never had an egine keep blowing the power packs each year

Ill get some pics of the powerhead tonight after work.
