I sunk driving a PRO Runabout in my 1st race too. It was in the St Lawrence rives south of Ottawa.
Someone had drowned in the area some days before, and they hadn't found the body. Everyone was teasing me that I'd be the one to find it!

Well............long story short, I hit something, and the boat began to take on water. I didn't know it at the time, but felt my feet getting wet. When I turned around to take a look, I knew I was in trouble.

Yup, sunk it, just the tip of the nose sticking out, and me hanging on!

Don't sweat it............Get back in ASAP.

Where is the crack in the gearcase? You don't want that baby coming apart at speed.

Don't ever think you are stupid Russ. I can see you are already bouncing back. There are many so called stupid things that can happen when you first start racing. Once you get that behind you...you can laugh about it. Write down all that you are going through now, and look back ten years from now. Stay with it and you will have some good stuff to post down the line.

    Default If I Posted All

If I posted all the stupid things I have done in boat racing it would fill a few pages of a thread. I think just about 98% of boat racers have sunk their boat at one time or another, meaning flipped, hit something, etc.

Don't sweat it. The only suggestion I have is to hold back posting all those things so we don't have some dirt on ya for the future....

    Hello Russ

Well sure sound’s like you had a bad day. I’m sorry to tell you but if you stick in racing you may or will have some more bad days. You consider those down days as learning days. That is what separates the real boat racer from the guy on the bank that says “man that look’slike fun, I wish I could do that.” Years from now you’ll be able to say “I was a part of boat
racing and not just the guy on the bank wishing you had been in it.”

Remember this, It’s not how many time’s you get knock down that count, it’s how many times you get back up.

Well said old man! I myself have never had a bad day in a tunnel! The first time out in one I blew it over and knocked the capsule out of it! Once I knew my dad wasn't going to kick my a** I was thinking how cool it was that I blew over and wasn't hurt! Hell it was even fun with the exception of that strawberry from my helmit strap when my helmit was ripped off!

Russ -- Are you guys ok? I just saw on TV the horrible tornado you guys had up there in Windsor yesterday..........Please check in with us as soon as you can.

My prayers to all of you who lost homes and belongings. On the news it said everyone was okay - even all the animals at the vet hospital were accounted for. Sure hope that was correct info and that everyone is ok at your place!

    Thinking of you!

    Val
