Default "Racing with Kansas City Speedboat & St.Louis ODA, 1969 - 1977"----Part II

    Here's the 2nd part...........ENJOY!!

Wayne tells me that the picture that I thought was him is actually Rod Walk. Sorry but it has been a lot of years. I think Rex Hall thought it was Wayne also. Oh well.

Tom - Great slid show and pictures. Nice touch having the period correct music playing along. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. Remember that there are two more parts to be posted soon that run through Lakeland FL,1976 and a little on Alexandria, 1976. As far as getting it posted, that would never have happened without the work on it that Jeff Lytle has done.

Tomtall...the correct time period music is the icing to the cake and really struck me when I first watched the DVD. In my 17 years of racing, certain songs would stand out and when I hear them now it takes me back to that time. So....thanks Tom for the music to transport us back.

Default Racing with KCSA & St Louis ODA

Part III will pick up with some pictures from Winona MN, 1975. There is a great story from that race about Rex Hall & Bill Van.

Here is what Bill wrote me about the competition record that Rex set:

"It is my boat. I let him run it at Winona in C Hydro as I had a bad kill switch and didn't get out for my qualification heat. This ride convinced him he needed a R&D Hydro to keep up. He got second to Charlie Bailey from Texas driving Baldwin's boat. Don't remember what happened to Wayne that Bailey was in his boat".

This is why Charlie was in my boat Tom. I missed most of 1975 from a crash on Memorial Day. Tim Butts drove my stuff in the Eastern Divisionals and at the Nationals in Winona. He didn't qualify in 500 hydro and we offered the boat to Charlie Bailey. Charlie declined our offer for the first heat, but had a motor problem so he borrowed our boat for the second and won with it. This is what I remember. Dan Kirts won the first heat driving Rex Hall's R&D and set a record. Charlie won the second heat with my boat with exactly the same speed that Dan set the record.

I can't remember Mark. Don't recall it being a top contender though. Tom can probably tell us or ask Butch Leavendusky.

First one of Tom and Butch is the Eastern Divisionals, Gadsden Alabama in 1975. Next two are also 1975. The Western Divisionals at Marine Creek Lake near Fort Worth.
