    Default '56 Mark 55E Stock

Hey guys, first post. Need help!

Buying a stock '56 Mark 55E, what can I do to it to gain horses? Currently set at 40hp. How high could I get this to go? Most of all what options to I have for lower units?

    Help me out,

    Thanks!

There are no direct lower unit only options. If your boat weighs less than 150 pounds total and has a transom less than 13 inches tall, you can use a Quicksilver lower unit and mid section or aftermarket mid section such as the Bass (Bass also makes a racing lower unit similar to the Quicksilver). Plan on spending $1200 to $1700 for those upgrades.

The internal reed valve and blind bore head design limit these motors dramatically in terms of increasing power. The best upgrade is the larger Mark58 44 cubic inch powerhead.
Since 1925, about 150 different racing outboards have been made.
