How to know if a nikasil bloc is good

I will buy perhaps a 2.5 F1 bloc.
But it is an old bloc, a 2002 bloc.
How to know if it is ok or no?

take a new gold ring and check the gap at the top of the bore, the middle and just below the ports. look for chips , scratches, any thing that looks like peelin.
