    Default Havasu Landing Feb. 14 & 15

Havasu Landing turned out to be quite a surprize! The campground was very nice, complete with water, electric and sewer system for the motor homes. The Casino served great food and very reasonable prices. Best of all, the water "laid down" for two days of racing. The evenings were simply beautiful with the lights shining across from Havasu City, the mountains tipped with snow. It reminded me a lot of the ol' type racing I learned to love in the late 60's. Folks roamed from camp site to camp site, grubb'n for beer, snack'n on what ever they could find and tell'n wild stories about yesteryears. The youngsters really had fun, It seemed those little "15" horsepower engines were on the water all day. The mom's and dad's loved it! The officials worked hard to keep the events moving and we all enjoyed a few of the ol' time glitches. Example, it seems that the "new" Boston Whaler was stolen during the night but the "thief" turned out to be the wind. All heats had been run on Saturday by around 4:00 and on Sunday by around 2:30. The SS-45's Western Tunnel Series went really well. There were around 14 (I'm guessing at the number) competitors going for the "gold" with only one minor casualty. Steven Dawe sort of "stuffed" it and tore up the bottom of a sponson, which in turn tore up the top of his really pretty Dawecraft tunnel. Knowing Ernie, it will be repaired by the end of the week. Seems like we are getting a lot of "girl kids" into the little hydros. I didn't know them (I've been away too long) but they are really into it and it showed on the course. They did a great job. Well, I know somebody who knows a lot more about the race than I do will be reporting so I won't "mess-up" the rightful reporter; I just wanted to tell some of the guys who didn't show that they missed a good race, IF YOU ARE LOOKING for the kind of old fashioned fun that boat racing used to be. No, there were no TV cameras, not a lot of camera action but there were plenty of guys willing to help in any way they could, including going in the water which was about 55 degrees. I also got to know a lot of the guys that are BRF.com type guys and it was fun to finally put a face to the name. I also ran my first "closed-course" race in about 15 years and boy did it show!~ I'll do better next time! Capnzee (rod) PS one of the SST guys that was helping me at the race was looking for a set of inline 6 stacks. You can find a set at Morgan craft boats (310) 324-4591)Gardena, in the back room, up on the shelf (ask for Bob, he is the owner and old time racer)

Default Rain Dances and American Indians....

My major was America History and going to school in Flagstaff, Arizona we were able to study real life Indians, first hand. In all the studies I read, Indians could do rain dances to make rain, but NOT PREVENT rain. I am not sure I still believe what happened at Havasu Landing.

We go there Friday morning weather was close to perfect, I have been to Tito's many times, but only driven through the campground to get an ICEE....So, when we pulled in and Chad's trailer was in from of us, I we just parked near the beach in spot 101....Rod and Mary Zapf pulled in next to us and Mary went an registered us...When Mary came back she said Pat Bowman was supposed to be ON THE WATER, but they moved him to 103...Of course, Pat had reserved a spot 6 weeks ago.....and I didn't think of reserving a spot...

Pictures: Ands I am bad with pictures......

    1. Sun Saturday morning...I wasn't dreaming..
    2. My new GT PRO motor, delivered by Bill Schwab.
    3. Brad from Amber Marine standing by Gary Lewis' old trailer...with the last Boat Russ Hill ever built on the top of the trailer..
    4. 43-C New driver Mike Menter's 20 SS Hydro...Great young man from New York in the U.S. Navy stationed in San Diego!!!
    5. Kevin Curtis' new Evinrude "A" motor..

    6. Dummies in the water...
    7. Water raced day..

    8. SCOA/Antique Outboard Clubs 20 Boston Whaler PATROL BOAT one of three boats that Team Rescue had there a with booms....
    9. Amber Marine's new 20 SS motor..
    10. Roger Carr, Region 12 Chairman.......That reminds me, he forgot his pass word to BRF but I don't think I give him a new one....He wants to TELL STORIES ABOUT ME BORROWING PROPS.

I basically sat around all day Friday watching....and at noon I saw what I was watching for..WIND, people had tested until noon then the wind came...I started drinking "Wind Stoppers" Think that might help, but basically went to bed thinking, the next two days may very well be very long days...Sitting out Friday night, looking at the lights of Havasu was more than enjoyable...The fireworks went on until at least 10 (Fire works companies were putting on displays to sell the city fire works for July 4th..One cool firework actually said LHC when it exploded....

I woke up and heard no boats, than didn't seem like a good sound...I opened the blinds just about a half inch and assumed I was still asleep and the lake was perfect, the air was clear and sunny..

Wow what a awesome weekend it was!! My first actuall race and I thought I did well. Boat came home in 1 piece, and nothing broke!! Got alot of good advice from Ernie, Jeff and the rest of the guys! Thanks everybody for the great info...I definately put it all in my toolbox for next time. I had fun chaseing Tammy and Jeff around the pins...It was a blast.

Till next time, maybe get sum testing in and seat time and get geared up for Puddingstone! Finally got to Meet Roger, Bill, and Ron after talking over the phone!

Did anybody get any running pics or vids of the outboards?

Default KT Doodle....Has A New Mercury

AXS and ASH were two good races this last weekend...

32-C is Marlee Hill, blue boat is Kevin Curtis...

When I look arcoss the lake and see a "REAL" city...it brings back memories of when Jimbo and I rode motorcycles through LAKE HAVASU CITY, 1964 at about 80 mph on a dirt road. When I raced the 1966 Havasu Classic, there were maybe 50 buildings in Lake havasu City...When you are on the Arizona side, you can't see the city, but man from the California side, Havasu is a real city....

Great shot, too for the Fire and Rescue boat, one of three boats on hand for rescue with booms...

These pictures are from Bill Schwab...

I had a blast this weekend I don't think that i've ever had that much fun racing before, well never mind, I've only had that much fun once before. Funny thing was about it is that I havn't really had much ASH time so I only went about half throttle and came in, in the first heat on sunday with the gps reading 40.4, i came in, saw that, and realized that I've gone faster in J! lol that was a great race! LOL I think I'm going to listen to pat and start using that throttle as an on/off switch! lol I think I need some test time! lol See you all in Puttingstone!

will with that advise A good racer knows when to lift and when to hammer it. But you are ready for the faster boat I can see it in your racing.
