Help needed for set up - please
Engine size and steering cables and helm recommendations
This is a formal Grand Prix boat with center steering - looking for speeds between 40-50 MPH - only thing I know is to have a 20 inch long shaft engine.
Data plate reads 25MPH limit to 289LBS limit - been told HP limit and weight capacity can be re-certified by US Coast Guard? Thinking about 35-40HP engine - known these boats were raced in the mid 80's -
    12FT Long
    5'9 Width
    21 Inch transom height
    200LBS
Does anyone know anything about this?

    Thanks
    Formal Allison Owner!

Especially true at 2x posted safe speed, wouldnt even go there. With what you can run you need the best possible prop 1st. Then test heights for what gives you the best compromise of traction, handling & speed [starting w/ propshaft slightly tucked]. Then test tilt angle. as you tilt out: if it breaks free- lowering the motor might help. [only worthwhile if it seems likely to go better]. 40s? maybe, 50s? optimistic. Be sure to keep run weight in mind if its too heavy it aint going to go....Good luck, PS take notes on results, best done if you have rpm, speed & know what pitch your prop is.

I run a 13' FunCat with a Fast Fred Stinger on the back of it. You need more horsepower

    Default engine height

The rule of thumb for a tunnel boat is to start with the engine height. I would start with the prop shaft being even with the bottom of the sponsons when the motor is tilted straight up. If the boat starts to slip when turning, lower the engine 1/8 inch at a time. Ideally, the boat will crab going down the straight away. Crab meaning, when you are going forward, the boat will be slightly angled kind of like a crab walking sideways. You will know what I am talking about when it happens. When it is at the ideal height, it may take a while to plane so make certain that the engine is tucked in when taking off.

What part of Ohio are you in ? A friend of mine picked one of these
up last summer and not sure how far along he is with getting it rigged
and running. You might want to check out the following site:

    http://www.dillon-racing.com/index.htm

They have a club in their area that races boats similar to the Scat-Cat
so they may be able to steer in the right direction for getting you going.
