Would a crank from a Merc 200, [25hp] of the same year fit? Guess it would have to be one with CD ignition if so.

Default Vic Brinkman in Grass Lake...

I do recall that in 1976, Carl Stippich ran a 25 SS motor that didn't have a CD ignition and his grandson, John Rama was Dq'd....I think the 25 SS was just a fishing powerhead. Vic Brinkman and Brinkman Propellers in Grass Lake, Michigan might have the parts, but for sure would know what parts you need to find...I might know where a 200 Merc or two is at Apple Valley Marine....PM me if yoiu can't find Vic's phone number...

Default crank interchange ..25ss what will fit

the 25ss is same as all 200 fishin motors ,same porting /bore /stroke same a same .... as far as cranks go assuming you have cdi on it ,.... mark10a ,15a, 28a,the250, all 200`s point ign / cd with maker points / etc any one of these cranks will work , the crank taper for flywheel is the same for all only difference is the point cam lobe ground into crank ... BUT DOES NOT MATTER .... early will FIt LATE but not the other way around due to the cam lobe .... if you have early cd with maker points then ya need same crank // also if you have point ign you need a point ign crank but for your needs as i said above any 1 of those cranks will work !!
as far as will the 25ss fit an xs race mid / gearbox answer is NO completely different mounting setup also the driveshaft splines are different

Not quite the same porting. Same block casting, but 25SS came OEM with same intake ports and higher exhaust ports. Both powerheads were legal in 25SS. I have dimensions if you need them.

For 'play motor', I'd use a 200 block, if your 25SS block is shot. Could raise exhaust ports, but 200 runs fine, especially if you're just using it for play / antique. If you're going 25 Mod racing, then port either block accordingly.

Otherwise, bore the 25SS block +.015", if needed. Bearings are available new. Pistons are available new. (Current OEM pistons are the newer 2 ring version, same as 44XS). Rods, reedcages, etc. are same as older service
44's, and common to 2 and 4 cyl. service motors. Jillions made, easy to find. Later 44 'fractured rod' interchanges.

Might think about Boyesen reeds. Cheap insurance against damage from broken reed. Same reeds as 44XS.

Basically, these 25SS are half a 44 internally, with higher exhaust ports...

    Hope this helps.
