    Default 1958 Mercury Mark 55

    Hey everyone,

I am in the midst of buying a Mark 55. Its all stock and just needs a new pull cord. Anyways, can you guys me the specs on it of the current year. It is a 1958.

I was told it weighs 135lbs is that right?

Also can you swap lower units for a more streamlined one? And a bigger ear propeller for the stock aluminum one?

I know I would love a Mark 58 with the quincy pipes and what not but I'm stuck with the 55 (not H).

So what can I do with it?

You can put a Mk58 front on it with the larger carbs, but it will probably be just as easy to find a working early 1960's Merc 500 that has 10% more motor size, the larger carbs and later, slightly more streamlined lower unit.

The weight will vary some depending on which options it has, shaft length, starter, alternator
Since 1925, about 150 different racing outboards have been made.

Thanks for the offer man, but in time I'll build one of my own! Would love your advice for the build though. Thanks again.
