    Default Thermostat question

I ahve a 2001 50 johnson on a 13 checkmate runs 40 with a 19sst prop at 6k rpm...what is my choice for props for thi motor...also have had trouble with thermostats sticking with this engine.would it be wise to run without thermostat and just the insert with a 3/8 restriction..on the hose it runs about 90 using an infared temp gun..Thanks

Hey Fast Fred what temp should the heads be? Do you run t-stats in your 3-holers or restrictors?

I've been "told" that is you remove the thermostst the engine runs hotter.... it's against my line of thinking but "they" say the water is moving to fast to get the cooling job done. I've also been told the cooler a 2 stroke the faster it will be (opposite to 4 stroke)....

just another stick in the fire!

the thermo is the best way, the restrictor kinda only works if you are movin massive air and fuel, makein massive BTU's.
