Hi Ron
My 19 yr old grandaughter Ray is living in Carlsbad had to prepare a family tree and dug into my exploits around the world including power boat racing therefore RAY988. There are many stories to tell and battle scars to match up.
I have over 14,000 slides and a kzillian prints and about 5000 ft of super 8 film - all in storage.
Facts - I beat the OMC Rotary twice - 1st at the quarter mile on the Erie Canal (Bob Wannemaker setup) - Bill Siebold drove it also & I dont remember which of us set the record for a single tunnel - I believe it was 105mph. 2nd - at the South African BP100 - 3hr race on the Vaal River - OMC crew had not calculated for full fuel load at 7000ft asl and warm water - I will send u a pic of the launch mechanism for the twin Molinari - Started with enough fuel to run 2 hours @ 90% throttle - therefore added just enough fuel at the pit stop to finish race (1 hr) but more importantly to get back up on plane -
UIM Race in Valleyfield Que - There was a picture taken (1000th sec) at the start line in C Alky and of the 10 hydros 4 of them were within 12 inches of the start line and I was 3 in. from the line.. Do u know of a copy being available?
Buy the way Mike Lundy (B stock Hydro) died of cancer last week - Mike ran in N New York State allot but primarily in Canada out of Burlington ON. Will be missed - he was a hard runner but allways fair.
Will keep in touch - Dick Summerfeldt
I talked to Dick. I told him one of those drivers in 1967 was me, one of the other ones was probably Fred Hauenstein. I never saw the picture, but would to see it posted here. Dick said when he get to California, he will look me up. I hope we get together soon...Dick was quite a racer and quite a business man. At one time, he had 2,400 employees world wide!
