Those are nice pictures, thanks for sharing them Mark!
I always thought the X-115 was a sharp looking motor.
Here is a shot of one a little closer. I don't know whose boat it was but it was a red Vampire.
Bought my X-115 brand new for $1300.00 and set up a UI rig. My 1st effort at OPC. Boat is a renovated "Sidewinder" I bought as junk and rebuilt with a lot of help from Bob Rhoades and Jim Daniels. Ran well, was US-1 high points!
Anyone got a parts breakdown on the x115 gearbox?
It was never released to the public. I'd like to see one if anyone has it.
Since 1925, about 150 different racing outboards have been made.
It was a simple process ... you sent the lower unit back to the factory, they fixed it and sent it back to you.
When I saw the V8 offshore breakdown with its dual pinion shiftable works, I realized they were probably the same.
I doubt you can do it any other way as compact as that.
The X-115 is certainly long enough for the third gear on the prop shaft and
the double sided main gear doesn't add that much length.

Coolest looking V-4 crossflow was the Evinrude used by Hu Entrop on the Starflite III: no cowl, four megaphones
