Default Maybe could run E for fun!

Hi John,
Well we still have some work to do to build a few more MPH. The hull is 20 years old that we tested with but really ran quite well. Need to do some setup work and dial in a couple props. Might try to run it on the last C/D Speedliner we built. aeroliner-boats.com. Your right, might make folks wonder how an old Merc can do that. A friend of mine just got a simular engine from Doug Kay but without the head work so it got the porting and carbs. He is running it on an old Hal Kelly design and having fun with the regular D's. By the way I just got a 44 block that has never been machined. That item will turned into a supper fast 44XS in that we can set the crank and ports to get minimum allowable CC's. If anyone would like photos I will take some. I have never ran into a raw casting with zero machining before. Well that on the list of projects to be done over the winter. Hope to have a number of engines at Mount Dora next year. The A looper is in the works along with the 2 Quincy deflectors. progress is moving along nicely. Also our reproduction parts a increasing. Have D water pump cartridges and A/B/C cones and bearing carriers.

Default Up this way there is still one old guy! lol !who has

Up this way there is a former racer, long since retired who has a Quincy padded Merc KG9 parked on a 40H short tower and 55H gearcase with aftermarket casting open side exhaust system on it with Hubbel reed valves on the intakes helping out its original AJs on the front. On aviation gas he had no problem tangling with the fastest 55H stock Mercs. At one race in the midwest (Detroit Lakes) in the mid 1960s, that engine cleaned up on eliminations from our side and then in the combinded USA-Can, Gas vs Alky finals against all those Alkies, they spiked the KG9s fuel with a dose of nitro, richened her up greatly, cut back the timing and cleaned house. No one at tech even wanted to look at her, there were no challenges. People called her the banshee screaming witch because its ear splitting shriek was between that of 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder Mercs with Quincy pipes.

I cut my teeth on Merc KG9s and 40H because back then a poor student that is all one could afford so everytime I see one restored or in your case even modernized it all makes you feel good and wonder what if Merc? Well they, Merc did, the 20Hs, 30Hs and 55Hs and so on.

Default You can sure have some fun with Quincy-Merc Deflectors!

I have 2 Quincy padded block 3rd port Deflector Mercs, both 4 cylinders, a D and an F. The way they were run before I got them was no different than most experienced. They run on such a ragged edge they are either somewhat doggy or run real hot at near piston crown meltdown ranges. When I overhauled them they both required piston replacements. I thankfully managed to get replacements from Dudley Malone (Central Marine, Tulsa).

The fun with them is their compression ratio is somewhere around 14 to 1 with about 7cc in what combustion chamber room there is left. Its a one cylinder at a time start. At 6 pulls using one cylinder at a time a strong person is headed for a coronary! Setting up display engines for vehicle shows is where the fun starts. You setup a Merc D or E Gas Modified hydro next to another hydro with a Quincy-Merc padded block deflector on it and rope one, even start it and then turn to some interested visitor to help you start the Quincy-Merc. Even with cautioning these big guys almost kill themselves trying to start the Quincy Merc with Quincy pipes after seeing you start an identical looking (but a Mod Gas) Merc with Quincy pipes. If looks could kill, that is what happens. I don`t look tough but how in the blazes did he (me) start that other engine and I almost kill myself against the compression of this friggen indentical looking racing Merc!!!!!!

One of these days, one of these practical jokes are gonna catch up with me with some vicious smack from some one that doesn`t have a sense of humor! LOL!

Default Kf-9

I have a KF-9 that Doug Kay completly restored and need one last part to make it complete. I need the fuel connector that conects to the base of the handle. It screws onto the mating part. This engine has a mechanical fuel pump and a single line hose. If anyone has one for sale or one I can barrow to get some made i would like to hear from you. My E mail is apvw1@aol.com.
I have attaced a few photos of the engine. Also we are continually making more restoration parts which can be viewed on our web site aeroliner-boats.com

Thanks,
Alan

Default Fuel Connector

Hi Bob,
I might get down there if I'm lucky. I normally work out of Melbourne but have been in Indy. If I could barrow it it would be great. David might be their if I can't make it. Or you could send it to my house. I will pay postage both ways.

Default Mercury Mark 50

Well Doug Kay is getting close to finishing my Mark 50. After this engine the A looper will get done followed by a couple 4 cylinder Quincy deflector engines.
We are making progress on the D drive shafts but they are taking far longer than we wanted them to take. As it looks now were about 8 weeks from getting them finished. You might check our web site for things we have in stock. www. aeroliner-boats.com.
Our current plan is to offer complete rigs. Currently we have a Sid Craft J with a mark 5 on it that is complete and ready to run. This is a very rare boat in that very few J boats were built by Sid
I have attached a couple photos for your review. Hope to run the engine in 3 weeks.

Default Need a cowl rap for the Mark 50

Doug has finished the Mark 50 except for rhe rap around cowling. The one I have is in bad shape. If anyone has a good rap around that they want to sell please E mail me at apvw1@aol.com with a photo. The Mark 50 had the sort of square raised look as the Merc 350 also had. Here are a couple more photos of the engine.
