Doug Kay has finished the restoration of My 40-H thats was on a Q tower when I got it. Its a numbers matching engine but the odd thing is the S/N has a Q stamped over the first number. I was told that if a dealer installed a "Q" tower on an engine he was instructed to stamp over the first number of the S/N. Anyone eaver see this before.
We are also making progress on the TX444DK. The filler block is installed and is now watercooled. Rge pipes have been fitted to the engine also. This week we will build the powerhead up less the carbs which I still have to get. With a bit of luck we will get the first running of the engine in April. Project yet to be started is to complete Harry Brinkmans's 75-H mod engine. The block is ported and filler block fitted. The photo is of the crank Harry prepared. This engine will go on a Brinkman tower also. Hope you like the photos, Alan |

What your doing is sure cutting edge on that 444. It looks so warm there (green with envy) to do it too. Sure not the minus 20 degrees below zero Centigrade it still is here, that is for sure! Your picts increase the level of cabin fever suffering! lol!

The photos were taken at Doug Kays shop in Detroit area. I drove up from the warm south and brought him a large truckload of hot air!!! thats ME. Well we are making progress and by next weekend the powerhead will be together.
Soon as I get the carbs we should start testing it in the old blue dyno. Alan |

Over the last few months we have been making progress on a number of projects. Doug Kay has finished the Mark 30-H MOD engine put together with Hary Brinkmans championship crank. Hope you like the photos. Should have it running in a couple months.

The TX444DK powerhead is close to being completed. Doug has finished the assembly except of the carbs that I still need to get. Hope to have them in the next few weeks. Here are some photos of the powerhed. Hope you enjoy them.

How do you restore that plate on the front with all the writing? I've got some Johnsons I want to do that to.

The mercury name plates have raised letters. If they are not dented you can clean all the base color pait from them and then respray the whole namplate. Once the paint has set for some time then you start with a sanding block and slowly remove the paint off the raised parts. Once its all cleaned up the you progressivly sand them carfully until you get to 2500 grit. At this point the letters should shine. You then finish the job with a good liqiud cleaner/polish and then wax them. If the plates are real bad then I obtain a reproduction name plate.

That cable throttle lashup is very cool. takes all the monkey motion out.
![]() The MOD 30 uses stock AJ 51 carbs?? Re: 444 - What is the function of the (OIL?) tank on the starter bracket? What sort of an adaptor plate works at the base of the late block to reroute the water flow from the racing towers' rear location? Just the stock base plate modified to fit and a different water tube routing from the foot? I have my Mark 50 block back from Doug and will have the 2nd fastest sandcast soon!! It's still just 40 cubes.

The 30-H MOD has standard AJ-51 carbs. The engine will also get a set of old Hubble stacks and will be used as a fun engine.
The 444 has an oil tank and is connected to a small pump. It will be used for oil injection. Now you have to figure out what were doing with the oil. For sand cast block need to know which tower your using. Might give Doug a call Alan |
