I use the permatex anerobic gasket maker px#51813 blue tube but sealer is red, virtually same as loctite 518. Available at Discount Auto stores. All that is needed is clean metal surfaces and a very thin coat on each 1/2 and bolt together - dries without air.

I am talking about crank case halves sealing.

I use 90 minute setting epoxy from ACE.

What about future case openings and cleaning the old epoxy from the aluminum mating surfaces without damage to the surface?

The cheap quick cure epoxies work great. A little more expensive than a tube of Yambond, which works real well too.

For those wondering, the epoxy you would use to seal a block of in my case, a gear case, won't stick to the part like it does to wood. It sticks, but it is actually easier to remove than normal case sealers. Once you get the edge up, you can usually shock it and get a big piece up. Just be careful and don't gouge your surfaces.

Epoxy works great to seal cases, etc. Just know your epoxy and don't use one made to weld metal.....

Caterpiller Anerobic Gasket Maker. For some reason I always seem to have like 8 tubes of it laying around, so I use it. Same stuff as Yamabond more or less.
