My son Eric lives in Key West, Florida. He "gutted" the lower unit on his 200 hp Yamaha about 5 months ago. Through the internet he found a place in Miami that sold lower units for the yamaha at under 1000 dollars, guaranteed for 3 years. His first replacement lower unit lasted about 2 weeks and then started making audible noises and large amounts of metal. He sent the unit back and after 2 weeks received another. This unit lasted about a month before it "locked-up". He sent this unit back and they found a tooth broken off a gear. The company said that there were no wear marks on the gears and he did not follow proper "break-in" procedures however they would honor their guarantee and replace the unit. In the past 4 months, he has lost about one month of boating while waiting for the replacement units, in addition, he has had to pay the freight costs. Good deal for under a thousand???? Anyone else had experience with these units? R:(D
