Some of you older racers may remember my grandfather Clay Pettefer

He raced knee riders in the late 50's and early 60's according to the stories ive been told he blew over while leading at the at the nationals in 61 destroying his last boat... ending that particular part of his career. Unfortunately he has now passed away. Visitation will be Today from 4:00 until 7:00 with Memorial service 7:00 till 8:00. At Trinity Baptist Church in Lake Charles. Graveside services on Friday at 10:00.

Heres some pics of the 1958 and 1960 World Championship F Runabout trophies from his house. I also found some race results on the sports illustrated site... Still looking for the rest of the trophies though.

I was so sorry to hear of Clay's passing. He was very instrumental in promoting in the Lone Star Boat Club as well as south Louisiana. Clay helped many boat racers through the many years he was around the sport. He will sadly be missed. The pictures below are from the collection of Claude Fox NOA.

Rest In Peace, Clay.

I remember your Grandfather Clay from my earliest days of racing. I did not get to know him as I was just a shy young racer, but I knew from all the talk about him, that he was one of the top racers from those days. I saw him at the races, but never talked to him. He quit about the time I started, but I have heard his name repeatedly over the years even to this day. Clayton Elmer and Joe Rome are a couple that have told stories about Clay from his racing days. I am very sorry to hear of his passing and may God bless you and your family. He is in a better place. I hope you are able to find and post more stuff about your Grandfather.
