Does anyone have experience with props on a Johnson Stinger 75? (1972)
It is on a 15ft 69 Galaxy tri hull.
The motor looks like it has a omc workhorse prop on it currently and seems to need a change. Just looking for a little more performance out of the old beast. Any suggestions on what props work well would be great.

Thanks

i imagine its a heavy boat, a 13 x 15 might be all you can do. get a tach and if only spinning around 5k, i think you need to step down further. if she is really turning up, try a 13 x 17, but my guess is, it isn't.

i just realized, it is a stinger, do you know if it is the 15 inch or 20? the 15 is geared higher than the 20, so the props i mentioned above are probably too much on a heavy boat like the galaxy. if it is a 15 inch, you can get a nice chunk of change for it and use that money to put a v-4 evinrude on it and have money left over.

Its the long 20" with the big gearcase i believe. The boat is fairly wide but not too heavy for a 15ft. I haven't installed a tach yet. I just feel like there is a little more rpm and speed to be had..
Thanks,
Jim

I think you should buy a tach before a prop.

The Galaxy is on the heavy side for 15 foot trihulls

Ide have to check the numbers to make sure it is a 72? Iv'e seen 65hp stingers from that era also so its possible thats what it is. Probobly a tach would be a good idea. Before trying props.
tHANks for the input>

It does say Mean Machine!

of coarse.. good little moters,, some of the early moters had electric shift lower units, it's easy to make a short out of it..

think the formula e, came years later. think 78 or 79 had the checker flag design, next might have been the formula e.. too many moons ago..smoking joe would probably know.............out

one of those 65 motors, at least one year, 72 or 73, i think, had an awesome lightweight flywheel that can be used on the later 75 stinger.

The 1972 flywheel was the lighter one...

it was the 72 that had the light weight flywheel. I have two if anyone is interest in one.
