Great that I raced in the 1970's when there were at least 12 to 13 weekends of racing in Region 5 that included the Grapefruit Circuit.

I recall that many of the classes like 25ssh that I raced always had eliminations. Very competitive Region with lots of top drivers like Jeff and Bill Hutchins, Freddy Townsend, Bunky Bowerman, Harry Pinner, the Eldridges, Chuck Bentz, David Rawson, etc . I miss it. :)

Or maybe I'm right

The only classes you can count on having enough for points: C Stock Hydro, A Stock Hydro and AXS Hydro

We have a group called the Classic Raceboat Association that does "exhibition racing" twice a year, March in Tavares, FL and November in Polk City, FL.

This is a "run what you brung" kind of event and virtually any raceboat, replica or wannabee is welcome.

The only APBA race I found on the 2011 race calendar for the state of Florida is Lakeland that occured in March.

I am long out of Florida, but back in the late seventies / early eighties you could race OPC every year in the following places. Add in going to Eufalla and Guntersville Alabama for the two nationals, and you had a pretty full year and most times were never more than five hours from home.

4 am on Saturday morning would have six or eight vans and raceboats meeting at Duncan Doughnuts in Fort Lauderdale and heading out in convoy to the weekends race site.

Key West
Miami Marine Stadium (twice a year)
Naples
St.Pete
Lakeland
Winter Haven
Lake Alfred
Auburndale
Sanford
Tavares
Stuart
Orlando

The only place I know still going is Lakeland, and that I think is Stock/Pro/OPC, and there is some Offshore stuff going on.

Those were great times in Florida

Can't forget Belle Glade - really cool race we used to run in the rim ditch canal!
