Whats the difference between a 1975 3 cylinder 75 hp stinger and a 1989 3 cyl 70 hp motor internally? I know there is a bit more compression in the stinger but that is achievable with the head are the rods/pistons different? Can you run all the later ignition on the older motor?
Any help is appreciated.
What year did they change the hp rating from powerhead to prop?

Thanks in advance Bill

We are talking about getting that little Vee Bottom Class going in SoCal, we need to know the "SECRET" motors...

Post a tape of your call, at least!

75hp 1975 is a 49 cu in. 1989 70 is a 56 cu in. The 1989 is a much better motor.

That conversation was on a "safe" phone line in the cone of silence.

And yes if I wanted the "best" one to run, if you ask the old SE guys would have been the 1975 75hp short, however, have fun finding plenty of them to run, as well, a good 1986 70hp will have it covered

Yes the 86 on engines have the bottom end, But you will still need to look back a few years for the short midsection.

The BEST of the BEST was a "Pop powered 75".

Mr Dan Pigot Sr had the stuff. no comparison period.

.

Mounting the 86 on the short stinger mid coupled with the nitro case is the ticket.

In my opinion the 1976.. 75 hp 15" shaft was the best model..(with the new design piston and rods)
