In the fifties they used to have these river races here in my hometown, Turku, Finland. They were held between the top Finnish boat racers, and for example Rauno 'Flying Finn' Aaltonen used to race there. I've got a bunch of pictures from the boat club (Turun Moottorivenekerho) who was the organizer of this event. Here are some examples:

We've also owned two of the boats which raced there.
