I have a 2001 Johnson 70hp with the tiller handle off the 1992 Johnson 60hp I blew up. Does anyone know how the steering friction rigs work on these motors? I have a threaded bolt that on the old motor - best I can remember - threaded into the swivel bracket and adjusted the friction. I am trying to rig this up on the new motor and I can't figure it out.

If the old friction rig can't be used on the new motor, does anyone know of another rig that could be adapted to my motor? I read somewhere that yamaha 3-cyl motors where real similar to OMCs. It still has the tilt tube from where this was used as a remote motor, but I also have the bolt that replaces the tilt tube on a tiller motor.

The yhammahaa friction is crap look into (Titan Tiller steering) set up or find a old thru tube hydro clyinder and connect the two hose ports with a valve filler up with oil and away ya go

Titan Tiller is too expensive for me, where can I find one of these hydraulic cylinders?

This is the yamaha rig I was looking at, It wouldn't be too bad to adapt if the rod that goes through the tilt tube is the right diameter:

these are awesome. #8 SLT X has one. No need for the bungee cord or the damper with one of these.

Yeah it cost around $2400 for old #8 to get that set up but its a lot more safe than the power version No power No steering.Saw a boat fly hard right into the woods ouch:rolleyes:
