gel like stuff in carb bowl

ran my 90 yamaha today,wouldn't stay running. done a plug check, bottom cylinder plug was dry. removed the carbs and all 3 carbs had a gel like stuff in the bowls, never have this problem on my omc..also using the same tank and hose. fuel i use is 110 octane mixed with 93 octane.

Any E in the fuel? How long do you let it sit between running? Do you use any stabilizer?

where are you getting the 93? Gas station or a marina??

yes on the E.. sometimes it's 6 weeks between running. only the yamaha does it.. my omc's never has this problem. no,on the stabilizer. thinkin that's the problem? buying gas from a bp station..

Six weeks is rather long and enough time for water to absorb into the fuel with E in it. I would use the stabilizer to help with rust prevention because E in fuel is corrosive plus it keeps the fuel fresher longer. There are several brands out there for outboards so pick. I use Stable and get it at Walmart.

WATER in the gas. NEVR buy gas from a station that doesn't have a boater for an owner. Here in FL we have a lot of this going on. Get a fuel/water separator. This should fix the problem..................

what i don't understand only the yamaha has this problem, i run the same gas in weedeater, lawnmower truck omc. no e gas is only 89 octane. quess i'll start using it. only 75 cent a gallon more.. thanks again

Is the Yamaha oil injected? If so, the jets are much smaller due to only fuel going through them as the oil is injected behind the intake and they won't let anything thick pass. The OMC has a pre-mix pump in front of the intake and has larger jets.

That better explains the E goo. Next time drain all fuel, but stabilizer would help extend the non use if fuel left in.

It's probably not from ethanol. We had this issue at OMC in an area in Indiana. I had to go out and investigate, what we found was the carbs would be this clear gell like substance in them after 3 days with fuel in them, Weird thing was when you drained the carbs, let the air hit the gell it would vanish. When it went away the carbs would be fine. The Jello was plugging up the low speed pick up tube and the motors would be hard to start and not want to accellerate.

What it turned out to be was the fuel, with a certian additive, and the right oil mixture would cause a reaction and make the Jello. In this case it turned out the particular additive was Valve tech. But it can be any additive with that make up. So, try buying fuel somewhere else and see if it goes away

thanks mr. Gohr sounds like bp got some cheap gas. It only happened in the yamaha, doesn't seem to bother the omc. weird stuff. i noticed that after mixing 110 octane with 93 (e) gas, that seems to be where the trouble started. thanks again
