I am pretty sure that many of the 45 guys use steering wheel mounted up trim and then have the down trim set up as a foot button. To me that sounds like a great way to go, allows you to keep both hands on the wheel and concentrate on the turn in, better deal with the torque of the motor, as your diving in to the turn. Coming out of the turn its alot easier to use the wheel mounted trim switches.

Is the way they set up, how is it wired? Any recommendations on the switch set up? Bobs sells a foot control up / down set up, but it looks pretty flimsy and having the up and the down so close together down by your foot seems like it wouldnt be the best bet in a race boat.

I run the up on the floor and down on the wheel.
Learned it from Bob Herring years ago.
I use the large metal waterproof push buttons with rubber covers over them.
I like having the multiple buttons on the wheel down so if one fails you have another to bring the boat down.
If the up button fails you can nurse it without risk of blowing it over.
3 wire system- power, down and up.
Just run power to the floor button and up wire.
Run power to the wheel and down wire. Wire each button on the wheel in series.

I think exactly the opposite. I have up on the floor that way you can start trimming out off the floor through the last of the turn without having to come off the buttons as you turn the wheel straight again.

black is ground, blue is for sky, up. green is for grass , down.

...and don't wire the 3 buttons on the wheel in series or non of them will operate unless you push all 3 at the same time. wire them in parallel.
