There were 37 twins, probably that many triples and a few more singles. I think 126 or 128 actually started the race....seems we started with a pace boat.

Ron Hill (http://www.facebook.com/ronaldhill) This was Fred Hauenstein's first OPC race. He was driving my dad's 18 foot DeSilva. Freddy would run about five laps and come in. OMC's mechanics would work on it and out Freddy would go again. Later that year Jimbo McConnell and I tested that boat all day and could not figure out why Freddy was having trouble. 30 plus years later, Freddy admitted that DeSilva was a "HANDFUL" and he just didn't like being out there in 2-3 foot rollers. So, he'd run about five laps, come in and rest.

Of course, later Fred Hauenstein, Jr. went on to become one of the all time best OPC drivers.

Ron, judging from the results, you too could have taken a five lap breather and still won the race by a lap! Outstanding...

Ron, do you have any information on races at Salton Sea or Lake Mead Outboard racing boats called Flamingo's? 1958
