I prefer cable as you get a better feel for the boat.

What power are you running?

Cable pulley steering is the only way to go, If anyone is interested I have one of Larrys race boats for sale. Its the yellow one, hull and seat with a new set back plate and trailer never rigged. Too many projects and not enough time!

Give Paul a call 905- 775-0862 at Top Gun Marine he can get you set up string steering wise.

2" of set back is a good place to start on an ally with a stinger

Are you gonna race T850?

Do you have trim?

Who makes a 2inch manuel jackplate?

That's great that your going to come race!

Would probably have to make your own for a 2" adjustable plate.

The Bob's plate is also a good suggestion at 4". You can also check with Hevi Kevi pretty sure he makes a 3" jack plate. He races t850 as well.

Where are you located and what lake do you run on?

Jeremy Culp one of the 750 racers is a Dunnville boy who would be a good local source for help.

Dave and Jake Elsey are also good sources for information. Dave races the same model of Allison. I am sure Dave runs more than 2 inches of set back and he had to move his battery well forward to get a good balance. You could start with a 2 inch Bob's Machine Shop spacer.

This might sound dum butt what is the point of adding set back .
how do you no how much to add?

Adjustability without resealing the transom every time, also the new boat that I have from Larry must use a plate because of the way the upper edge is formed. There is a company that makes a 2'' and 3'' adjustable plate that fits these small boats real well, I saw them at one of the Southeastern Drag Boat club races this year in S.C. Someone come get this new Allison before I change my mind! Billy 912-663-0424

Set back is to help adjust the balance of the boat, it gets the weight to back more. I've also been told 2 to 3 inches of setback on these style boats helps you accel out of the corner better.

MGR Several of the racers do not run any set back at all. The set back helps bow lift because you do not require a lot of positive trim to carry the bow. The set back also puts the prop in better water. The hull makes a hole behind the boat and that disrupts the water going to the prop. On a race boat too much set back will cause the boat to drag in the corner which hurts cornering speed and exit speed. Boat balance is different for each driver. What you don't want is to have the bow rise [kite] as you back off entering the corner. You want to be able to trim down and have the boat set for the turn and have the bow drop slightly should you need to back off. Proper balance is full speed, very little if any positive trim and the boat will take off and land level off a wave. A lake racer or a kilo run boat can have more set back on the boat. I believe Joe ran 12 inch set back on his kilo run EP Allison.

If you do a search for Allison 13r for sale you can see how the bobs works out it ends up 2-1/2" offset I did this boat a few years ago. I am discussing a race deck boat now. Building a Shorty v4 alcohol motor for it. Not quite sure what I ll do with the boat. Odba is considering a v4 class.
