View Full Version : Transom Height on a Tunnel Boat

Thinking about building a tunnel hull this winter, so I need to know what cavitation plate heights you people run. I'm NOT a racer, just a knock about guy who takes his grandkids for a ride now and then, so I don't want a 'scream the crap out of the motor' to get on plane setup.

Should I build the transom with the cav plate level (same height) with the bottom? Or should the center of the gear case be level with the bottom of the sponsons? (The sponsons will be about four inches below the flat bottom.)

Thanks!

the prop shaft is about as deep as the hull, so the lowest point on the the hull for the prop shaft. cav be way out of the water.

Thanks. That's what I wanted to hear for a starting point for the transom design. I'll make provisions for cutting or adding height to it as needed to get it right.

Construction starts when the boating season ends! Should be fun.
