Hello all.
I have a few questions about modding a 1998 mariner 15 hp, I have plans to buy the racing gearcase as soon as funds allow, I currently have the motor apart for cleaning polishing and some painting. I have boyesen reeds to go in it. Is there anything to be done to the tuner pipe? Or should it just be left alone? Is it ok to clean up the ports and polish them? Worth doing or no? Has anyone found a way to increase compression on these motors? Thermostat or no? Drying the pipe ok? Should the bores be honed to loosen them up ? Going to be a lake racer on my 13' Gheenoe until I build or buy a racing hull. Haven't decided on hydro or runabout yet. All help much appreciated! I'm open to all ideas!
