Since there has been some interest from the European members of racing in the 70's I started this thread. We were getting a little bit off topic on the other thread and I sometimes have a hard time remembering where something I want to look at again is posted if we drift off a little. So here goes.

I don't remember whether that was one of the collaborative efforts between Konig a Volvo Penta or not, but it kind of looks like it might be. Do you know Gert Lowisin?

The driver in pic no 1 is Gunter Becker, but I don't know the mechanic. I think most everyone knows the driver in the next batch of photos, but do you know any of the others?

You are correct, that motor was a König-Volvo. Rotary valves and a dual pinion König lower unit.

I think I heard that Gert was in poor health, is that correct? How about Carl-Eric Zander? Anyone know how he is doing?

Pic #4 in the first batch shows a neat looking red laydown rig leading.

Wayne: Who made that hull? It looks kind of like the one you found leaning against the wall behind the Konig Factory.

But it wasn't the one behind the factory. The transom was the widest part on that boat, and in photo no. 4 spray is coming from halfway down the boat. I will look at pit photos for a clue. I also have six B & W contact sheets, so maybe I will find one that one of the European members can tell us what make it is.

BTW Sam, I talked to Ralph Donald last week and he told me that Gert was in very bad health. It's too bad. He's a great guy.

I'll check to see if there's a better shot in B&W later. Just a few more pics of the variety of craft here. The one guy may have gotten a late start and needs to know which way to go. I am curious about the history of Joseph Ulrich from Switzerland. He looks to be the epitomy of a gentleman boat racer. Does he have a long history of racing?

Great pictures,

Certainly is a wide variety of craft, can't say I'm too familiar with the German scene during those days. Hard to tell, but I'm almost certain the blue 10 ON in the earlier pictures is a Cougar, some of the smaller SD & SE tunnels look like Clerici hulls.
Mr Ulrich from Switzerland looks like one of a rare breed who is just as likely to enjoy the thrill of sailing a classic 1930's racing yacht as he is high speed powerboats.
Tried to post the following Volvo pic a few days ago, hope it works this time.

Hey Wayne all those pictures are awesome but I was just a kid back then to remember all racers names.
Here is a picture of me standing (and dreaming) next to my brothers’ boat and that nice lady is my mother.

We could save the Clerici cat with the original Archimedes Penta 550 Sport. You can see it with No. 26 on the pictures from the race above. We have got it from its original owner helmut Neumann from Munich/Germany.
