I just learned from Ralph Desilva of Bud's passing. He died on October 22.

Ralph had sent a Christmas greeting and he received a letter from an attorney informing him of the news. At this time he doesn't have any extra info but Ralph did want me to pass on the news.

How sad :( Bud was and will always be an icon of the sport.

Although I never met Bud, He was a great guy answering any questions
I corresponded with him about. I was looking to build a C Service
Speeditwin and asked him what parts to look for. He also gave me a
look back into yesteryear on some races. I think he was a great guy.
said if he knew he was going to live so long, he would have taken
better care of himself and wife Mezzie (?) Needless to say, we moved from the midwest to the desert so the best laid plans were put to rest. Health problems prohibit active participation now.
I will really miss our correspondence and was about to write a letter when
I read the posting. May he RIP in racing Heaven with Mezzie

I was talking to Buddy Byers at the APAB Convention (2007) and his wife mention Buddy had been hurt in the 1966 Orange Bowl Regatta...

It sure is a shame how people who have known each other for years, don't communicate with 'friends' in their later years. My father passed three years ago. The few years before that, I begged him to call people whom at one time in his life were great friends, like Fred Huenstien, Bill De Silva, Doug Creek, Tommy Ingals, Henry Wagner, Chuck Parsons, Bud Wiget.

He refused too. It was as though they had a fight or something. A couple of years ago, I found Buds number and informed him of my dad's passing. I mentioned that I had insisted he call friends, and Bud told me that when you get up there in the years, it is very difficult to face people you once were young with. You just don't want people to remember in your last days, but how you used to be.

Rest in peace Bud, and I hope all of you meet in the hereafter.

Sorry, got off track at the mention of a legendary name, My Dad always liked Desoto cars.
I bet some here say what?? Bud and Ethel were at mission Bay one yr., they parked their 150 hydro on the beach, not like tinkertoy, ready to race on a trailer in the water.

They parked bow in , was still easier than trailer every time , anyways i was very fortunate to help , as my cooler was right at their bow. Everything else Mastercharge.
