If you want an old hydro, check out the Clark Craft Hal Kelly kit for the Wet Back. I think you would be much happier with that than all the work you will have on your hands rebuilding this one. Hal was a top designer of his time and was often copied. Ruggard boats.
Good luck with what ever direction you head.

Is that the ground I see thru the bottom of that boat?
I don't have the patience for that kind of repair work. Hats off to ya if ya get her going.
How much time and money are you willing to invest in it?
I got a boat I'd sell ya real cheap. But getting it to you would be a problem. Maybe there's someone closer to you with a project boat you could get for cheap.
I'd just hate to see you get frustrated by spending the entire summer rebuilding that.
No offense. Just trying to look out for you.:)

Christian; there will be a sanctioned [APBA/CBF] boat race not far from you on Aug04/05th. it is about three hours south of you, at Beaver Lake near Erinsville ON right off Hwy41. This is as close to you[north] as we will ever get, although we did race in Pembrooke 25 years ago.
You should have a look at racing runabouts, before u go whole hog into that 'hydro'. I think a big runabout would be best suited to your 18 and M400, not require a racing lower unit, and run the water in that river a little better.
Do they still run logs down the river up there???
Makes for a fun race !
If u come to a race, look for this boat.:)
PS;#11, and even #111, and #111CE are taken.
Look at the list on the CBF site for available numbers.
PS II; Jeff, anything look familar in this pic ??

a little bit of a an update on the river up here for ya brian =p. the river is in its prime right now atleast ive been told they haven't ran logs down for oh say 20 years i belive. This year was the first year they haven't open up the dam for the spring run off b/c the water was so low. this has never happened before. a little worry as to what is the current conditon on global warming  i guess u haven't been up here for a while... ill post some pics when i get home im @ my grandparent's place in ottawa atm =)

yea ill def prolly go to that race and hopfully meet you and some other people=) oh and whats the actual adress for the CBF site not sure what it is or if ive been to it b4.

ps happy belated b-day=)=) Brian

hey all you wood experts i was told by my wood teacher at the school that cedar 1/4 plywood wood be best for planking on a boat. whats your guys say???

"Planking" should be solid wood. For other pieces there are different woods and different thicknesses. Most raceboats are made from an entirely different plywood - "marine grade" mahogany, often specifically Okoume Mahogany.

The deck on one of my DeSilvas is 3mm; about 3/32"

Solid white cedar is very good for bottoms of plank constructed boats. It can easily be steamed and bent into compound twists - but race boats haven't been built with plank construction for over 50 years.

The plans you are looking into getting have very good, very detailed suggestions for the type of wood for each part of the boat.:)

yes, it is OK. It will get your powerhead connected to a racing lower unit.
