Huintington Wv. 1982 -----Great race,"Mouth of the South" did a great job annuncing, Joe Burgess, in a Roark built and set up boat, won as usual.I, in boat 20 finally started to get my act together and was in second until the last turn when my Nydal steering broke and I came as close to killing myself as I ever have.

2008 is Fred Schoellkof or someone he sold the rig to after 11/81. The absence of dominating Mod-VP tunnels means this shouldn''t be as late as 1983. I drove 2008 with the Evinrude at Havasu in 1981, was about 15 mph slower than the Mod V tunnels with gearcases above the sponsons (1981 is when under bullet water pickups were allowed, that killed the V-bottoms). Fred did not drive until after 1981 (he drove a Merc in 1983) so I'm unclear about the date. Louis Collins' nr. was 85, not 308.

Can't be as late as 1983, and I think 1981 is unlikely-see below. I don't recall that anyone raced 2008 with the Evinrude before I drive it at Havasu in 11/1981. Fred did not drive until 1982 at the earliest, and then with a Mercury.

Roark owned perhaps...... the build and setup was done by the master!

I've got more pics from this race somewhere I need to round up.
