Lane and Steven Curry have been working with us at every race since we got back into 45 SS. Lane is having knee surgery on August 23, 2007 and will miss the San Diego race.

Lane tells me Steven has all of Lane's racing pictures...and I hope he'll post them...

I "FOUND" a 36 Wheel at Mickey Schwarzenbach's Apple Valley Marine a few weeks ago....On the propeller it said, "LANE". I polished the wheel and we had planned to present it to Lane at Long Beach, but Steven was in Hawaii and then we thought San Diego....

So, today, Tinker Collinge and I took the prop to Lane...We wanted to cheer him up about his coming knee surgery.....

Enjoy the prop, Lane...Heal fast, we need you at Bakersfield....

My new camera is in the shop at BEST BUY since August 4th...Hope these pictures are good!

Just talked to Dad, surgery went fine. He'll be on crutches for a few days. Thanks to everyone for thinking of him.:)

1st pic - when Dad messed with C Runabout for a while
The rest are the "36" pre-Chickenship days. More to follow...

Pic 5 - 2US is Dan Schwarzenbach...

Seems I was 19-C, Lane was 20-C and Jimbo was 21-C....Just an FYI!!!

See the handles at the rear on the side...36 runabouts and D Runabout were about 550 pounds in those days, and NO ONE HAD A CART.....So, you needed a lot of friends to launch your boat...

Also, these handles worked well as "NERF" Bars in the corners....

Seems Reg Mechan named his boat LIQUOR BOX about this time too....

FDlying Box...maybe have looked like a "BOX" and Reg's BU was all wood, too...but seems APBA decided these names needed to GO....

Great pictures Steven...Keep them coming.....Is the top picture at Blythe???? Can't seem to recall....

ADD: Snoopy was built by Gene Bettis. Keith Mason had the boat when it was new...Natural and purple....

Something Lane told me that few might know which is pretty darn awesome if I must say....

At Longbeach, we were working on Jared Wallach's throttle between heats down at the ramp. we were talking about wives, racing and just family chit chat kind of stuff. when I made mention that I have the most incredible wife anyone could ever have, and she goes to races to support KT but it's not eally her thing, he tells me....

His wife has seen more boat races over 30 years than anyone could ever see, so he goes to the races to help Hil's and wityh Steve, his son.

Here is what was most impressive about this mundane topic. Lane is a newley wed, plus 53 years, as Paul Harvey would say. Get well soon, Lane, and try to convince that bride of yours to come for the ride once, Patti and I would love to meet her.

Ron, I was 11-C and 21-C. When Jimbo bought the DeSilva Mother Please boat from me he added a 1 so it became 121-C. Have pictures to prove it.

Thanks Bill:) --this is exactly why this place is called....Boat...Racing...Facts!

The small details and one persons memories over another make brains click to remember other things they had forgotten about. And the history of boat racing has another piece of the puzzle added.

Ron's memory is excellent. Far better than mine. However, sometimes he can be a little off.

Bill, your own pictures of Jimbo's Sid Craft..... What number is on that boat.... Seem I remember your DU as 11-C....Is this not BILLY BOYES at Hansen Dam, with a first place DU trophy????

Oh hell, just re-read your post...The Mother Please Boat, was yours at the 1963 Boston Nationals....Jimbo's Sid-Craft was a 1963...

Did there used to be the same numbers for hydros and runabouts??? My memory is going bad though! (Too much pomegranate jelly on my bagels)...(Did you and Kay can that jelly???)...

Danny Schwarzenbach owned this boat, not sure WHY Lane was driving it... Tito Smith bought this boat and turned it over just about everytime he raced it....Should have been called "FLIPPER", except one of my boats already had the name!

Mickey Schwarzenbach is supposed to show up at this weekend's Blue Water Resort and Casino 300 Enduro, on October 20, 2007....

Reg said his son found stuff about him on Boatracingfacts.

Reg is living in Vancouver, Washington.

Reg promised to send me pictures of his McDonald BU called "Liquor Box".

The best part of our phone call was what great memories we both had about boat racing.

Looking forward to the pictures..

I'm sorry to say, Lane is no longer with us. Lane was always a positive, happy, and down right good guy!

1969....Looks like Dan Schwarzenbach in 94-C but my uncle Bob Whitcomb may have owned the boat and Dad in Chickenship 104-C. He bought the boat from Bill Boyes as a C and added the nose.
