I'm restoring a 15' 1959 Anthony Jetsar that will have a 1250ss Merc on the back of it. The bottom of the boat is a 3 point hydro. Originally the boat was not manufactured with a skid fin, however somewhere along the way someone added one to this boat. I've heard it just slides in the turn so I can understand why it may have been added. My question is, where should it be placed? I'm worried if it was too far forward or too far back the boat would handle like crap. I've never run the boat. So where should I place it?

I'd run it if you could. It may run well. A good indicator that the fin is too far forward is the boat will "hunt" or kinda slither from side to side on a straight run. The faster you go, the worse it will get. If it is too far back, the boat will not corner as tightly as it should, slide or just not hold the corner well. I'll talk to my buddy sometime between tomorrow and Sunday and see if he has a better method to figure where to place the fin on your type of boat. He's got it down to a science on the flat bottoms!

WE ran this with a DR 800. Handled the 80 well. Was not the fastest and it did not turn. Slid all over the place. Question a 1250??? Good Luck.

Got the boat with a 700DR, the guy I got the boat from also had a 1969 Merc 1250 short shaft. Hopefully the 1250 will give me a little more performance, as hopefully replacing all the plywood core with balsa.
