Looks like Dwight's Kawasaki. And Jim Rea returning to the pits in in his FRR in the background.
If I remember correctly Jim and my dad riding with him, John Myers got in a traffic jam and tipped the canoe that year.

Besides the photos....the composition is good. You are cropping the pics in a way to get rid of the extraneous background and bringing the focus on the subject for a greater impact. But you also had some good wide shots with a telephoto that brought those dry mountains in the background to help establish the setting. Keep it up.

Lil' Stinker, thanks for the great posts. I only raced at Sparks once, that was September 1966. I'd graduated from NAU and was to start teaching the Tuesday after (Labor Day weekend). I'd had a good year, winning CU and DU Marathon Nationals and DU closed course...I had a Hubbell D Merc with Quincy pipes and my dad's/brother's Evinrude Six stud....

Carl Meyers and my fraternity brother Mike Gianelli and I drove all day to get to Sparks. They had passed a new law that you needed a right side rear view mirror when pulling a trailer, it went into effect 9/1, so every cop we passed turned around and stopped us...first one gave us a ticket, after that I just showed them the ticket...

Didn't get to Sparks until after dark, went right a motel and crashed. Seems the motel might have been next to the "LAKE" as the next morning I walked to the "LAKE" and my car and boats were there, but I didn't see a "LAKE"...We had fishing ponds in Orange County larger than Sparks...Sparks had two ponds, one where we pitted and one where we raced... The pond was like a figure 8 and had had to points of land sticking out into the course the year before, but Harry Bartolomei had run over them for like six laps in a row and now the water was about 6" deep where these to points went out...

NO BS, this pond could be walked around in five minutes...

We raced our asses off for two days had a great time, but I never went back.....I think we ran 6 laps, but you could lap a guy in two...NO ONE that reads this can believe how really smalls Sparks is...

47-C is a Dawe hydro, I sold it to Betty, I think at a boat show with Tom Ige...Her first race we called her "BONZAI" Betty....as she didn't understand how the squeeze throttle worked...(She thought it was a handle to hang on to)...She bought a camper and came with her mom...She actually got to be a pretty good driver...I can't remember her name...I heard she sold her house and bought a sail boat to sail around the world with her boy friend, but he left a day early and ripped her off...

She was the first to every use a cleaver on a 20 SS....ran good until she tossed a blade...(This is NOT "BONZAI" Betty in the boat...This is after she sold it).

LAST ADD: I know there were some great races at Sparks......and your pictures bring that out clearly! Thanks!

Attention West Coast Boat Racers. Boat Racing is coming back to Northern Nevada. A tentative date has been set for August 18th and 19th. This looks like a free weekend for Region 10 and 12 and also does not interfere with Nationals. And school will not be in yet for most of the younger drivers. The race will be held in Sparks, Nevada at the "Sparks Marina". Sparks is just east of the Reno. The Sparks Marina is one of the best layouts I have seen for Spectators to watch a race. The Sparks Marina was an old gravel pit just north of I-80. It filled in with water from the Truckee River (south of I-80) that overflowed in the 1997 flood. The place NCOA used to race at was Paradise Park over 20 years ago. That's where all these pictures were taken. Paradise was redesigned 15 years ago and cannot accommodate racing. Attached is a picture where I drew a 4,100 long course. I am thinking the course will be set closer to a ¾ mile course. The sidewalk around the lake is 12 feet above lake level.
The usual Region 11 classes will be tentatively be hosted. More information will be posted as this event comes together.

Just drive by Sparks Marina yesterday. Looks like a fun litle pond with a sandy beach. I live 33 miles up the mountain from there so i truly hope you can make this happen. There are loads of fun places in Reno at night, and world famous Hash House A Go Go is 1 mile away. If you get some classes together, I would be willing to offer prizes of beer for placement.
