Despite all that bad rap the Duke gets. It is really a great airplane. Had it now for 25 years. Those that knock it are those who have never owned one or did not know how to operate or take care of one. It does help being a licensed A&P to stay on top of it. Other than the engines, it is just a bigger Baron or even Bonanza pressurized. Which, in its self, is a simple system.
I am sure as Tim stated, It will not take much to dial the beast in with a dyno. I still fear bad things with dynos and will not try to squeeze the max out of it. Just make it run solid and clean.
I agree. The Duke is a great airplane, a real hot rod. I kept up with (maintained) four of them between 1981-1990. The TIO-541 screams like a looper beast. Most unique. More systems, more squawks, I guess was what I meant.
I dont fancy trying to dial in an il6 with adjustable jets, thats a double handful there, adjust 6 and get them the same.

Well the dyno is completed, I think. Have fired the engine on it 3 or 4 times with just a couple shots of gas in the carbs and only running for a short burst. That completed priming the hydraulic system. The tach, which is just a wire wrapped around a plug wire lead for a pickup, worked fine. The hydraulic pressure came up on the gauge and had a reading on the torque readout.
So given some warm weather, I will roll it out, do some testing and see if I can get the tuning issues solved.

Dick, looking great. Have a question. I see you have multiple steel screen filters on the same line. Can you explain the reasoning for this?

That is a very nice piece of work there! What is the reduction/tooth count at the dyno pump? I have the same Land & Sea dyno with a load cell added as well, but I have adapted a 70HP 2:1 OMC service unit to bring the pump speed down. I know that the lower unit will be my weak link. When I saw the the simple belt and pulley system, I thought that was brilliant! That clearly engages the K.I.S.S. Principle. I already had mine pop out of gear at full power with a D Mod on it... Fortunately, nothing blew up!
